With everything we eat these days, it's easy to lose track of the importance of knowing where our food comes from. Beginning with the milk in our morning coffee, there are dozens of choices to be made each day.
At The Pasta Shop, we're taking steps to make these choices simpler. We're proud to announce that effective immediately all of the chicken used in The Pasta Shop will be Fulton Valley Air-Chilled Chicken...
From our frozen chicken stock to the rotisserie chickens, you can be sure that the chicken you're taking home is healthful, sustainable and above all else, delicious.
Fulton Valley Farms poultry is raised by Central Coast Farms in Modesto. Since 1925, their mission has been to produce a wholesome, natural chicken grown the old-fashioned way. This has become more important in the current environment where chickens are reared on antibiotics and growth hormones.
Fulton Valley Farms was the first on the West Coast to air-chill their chickens. Air-chilling is a superior processing method as it intensifies the natural flavor of the bird and allows the meat to retain its moisture. And with a chicken that isn't chilled in a water bath, you can be sure you're paying for chicken, not water absorbed by the chicken. It's also a cleaner and safer method of processing since the birds are chilled individually, not communally.
Fulton Valley Farms poultry are fed only corn and soybeans, milled on-site to ensure the quality and wholesomeness of the feed. The chickens live in open-air coops where they're free to roam outdoors -- no cages, no pens and no cramped quarters. And most importantly, the chickens are never given antibiotics or growth hormones.
We've spent a lot of time making this decision, visiting the farm and getting to know the farmers. We're happy to be making this change and want our customers to know that this is only the beginning for us. This does mean the prices will increase for our chicken products -- but we think you'll agree that the quality is worth the extra money.
