American Cheese & Charcuterie Month
Where & When
October is American Cheese Month, a celebration of North America's delicious and diverse cheeses and the farmers, cheesemakers, retailers, cheesemongers and chefs who bring them to your table. To add to the fun, we will also be promoting artisanal charcuterie. Visit the Cheese Counters at Market Hall Foods in Oakland and Berkeley to enjoy free tastings all month long! View the calendar below for a closer look at the cheese tasting schedule.
Coming up this weekend (from 11am–2pm in Berkeley and 3–6pm in Oakland):
October 12: Nicasio Valley Cheese
Foggy Morning: Cow milk. Creamy and fresh, spread on toast with some honey and Marcona almonds.
San Geronimo: Cow milk, washed rind. A full-flavored melting cheese—use as raclette.
October 13: Alta Langa Fresco
Caprino: Goat milk. Creamy and spreadable, eat with chutney or fig jam.
Margherita: Sheep, goat and cow milk. Fresh, creamy and slightly sweet.
October 14: Beehive Cheese Company
Promontory with Rosemary: Cow milk. Full-bodied texture. Eat on a meat and cheese plate with La Quercia Prosciutto Americano and crackers.
Red Butte Hatch Chile: Cow milk. This cheddar-style cheese has a spiced chile rub and is one of Beehive's bestselling cheeses (and sales promote a good cause—read more on Janet Fletcher's Planet Cheese).
